BAL VIHAR CHILDREN HOME

Babaji-O-Noble-SoulBal Vihar children's home is an initiative of Sadhu Sunder Singh Welfare Society founded by Baba John Dayal in 1995 and it has 18 years of experience in providing quality care to disadvantaged children. Bal Vihar was set up with the belief that every child is an individual and has 'Rights'. Baba John Dayal believed that as a society we need to follow a proactive approach, not be laid back and wait for government to do everything. The individuals themselves should take action. Taking inspiration from his legacy the home continues to work for the empowerment of children. Today it is well aligned with all the processes of JJ Act.

In today's world children come to us with different needs. Hence we provide range of programs and services not just for their growth and development; safety and security but also for their empowerment. We call this "Continuum of Care”.

The power of our children's home to affect meaningful change dwells in diversity of programs and services we offer. The range of services in our current "Continuum of Care" includes- Residential Facility, Education, Health Care, Counseling, Food and Nutrition, Recreation, Vocational Training and Rehabilitation. Hence we nurture children in a family environment ensuring quality education and helping them traverse the journey from abandonment and loss to secured spaces to become responsible, productive individuals.

At present the home houses 28 children between the age group of 7-18 years in two different wings- South wing housing a total of 20 girls and North wing housing a total of 8 boys. Out of this six children are differently abled. Bal Vihar is unique in many ways. Its foremost uniqueness is embedded in its desire and capacity to provide an inclusive environment. At Bal Vihar, all the children with or without disabilities live together. Although there is a growing disability rights movement but people with disabilities in India continue to be socially stigmatised. Coming from diverse circumstances children with disabilities need focused efforts that support them in realizing their potential and help them to participate in the mainstream life. The first and foremost thing we do is provide them with the normal surroundings where they can learn and grow with others. At the same time their special needs are addressed. To end, our effective model of inclusion not only benefits children without disabilities but also creates an environment in which every child including those who have disabilities, have the opportunity to flourish.
Creating an inclusive environment where each child feels safe and supported in an engaging and appropriately challenging environment is rarely an easy feat, yet essential to the development of the whole child.
